Reclaimed Work of My 19th Year
I had these hanging up in a musty corner of an antiques store for storage for maybe a little over two year. They may be of the most substance, or good looking, BUT they are valid in they’re medium. This is a case of the medium being far more interesting then the painting itself. Also I’m going to throw a picture of 19 year old eric up here as well.
This first piece is 32 H X 27 W. Its made of a raw canvas drop cloth stretched over a backwards old frame that I had picked up at the flea market. Made using acrylic and fabric paint. Although it may be dark and sad, the raw canvas drop cloth is very cool and having the frame backwards makes the painting pop more. Instead of looking like it wants to sink into the wall, it looks like its trying to escape it.
These last paintings are part of a double sided piece. 30 H X 20 W, all acrylic and latex house paint. Again this canvas is stretched by myself of that same drop cloth material. The frame is made from this old tray stand that i garbage picked from one of the bed and breakfasts over in a local old irish catholic town. I maintained the original color of the frame because it was so interesting and old timey in itself. Recently to try to preserve this piece, for reference use later on, I covered the more exposed side in safe coat acrylac.
The phrase on it is from an on going narrative I’ve been working into my paintings for the greater part of the last 5-6 years.
